PCNA Group provided ADACSN Second Image/Accessibility Analysis and Master Code Analysis for the existing CSN Main Building and Horn Theater for the Performing Arts – Cheyenne Campus. The project consisted of a complete code analysis for accessibility, building, and fire design considerations of all areas of the Cheyenne Campus Main Building under the 2012 International Building Code (IBC) & Fire Code (IFC) in the State of Nevada, the 2010 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the 2009 ICC A117.1 Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities (ANSI).

The component portions of this facility are collectively noted as Main North, Main South, Main East, and Horn Theater. All portions primarily consist of 2-stories, are internally contiguous to afford internal pedestrian access, and make up the majority of campus facility. Because portions were constructed in multiple phases over the past 30+ years, each utilized the applicable codes at the time of each construction phase. This meant that as code requirements changed over time, the accessibility and life safety elements provided for each portion also changed. The result was an inconsistent mixture of design elements and features that did not always provide a complete user-friendly experience for students & faculty.

The primary purpose of the ADA/Accessibility audits was to verify that all existing areas of the facility were identified with respect to full compliance with the newly adopted 2010 ADA. Areas not found in full compliance were geographically noted (both narratively and visually), cited with referencing code section(s) as per each found deficiency, and provided with recommendations for remediation solutions. The remediation solutions were prioritized with respect to cost factor, level of construction impact, and length of implementation.
